Description
SU 8002 represents a deep fill of topsoil in Area B. The first 5-6 cm of SU 8002 were a grey soil with a mixture of vegetal, faunal, modern and ancient cultural material, ranging from penny to palm size. Beneath the first 5-6 cm of SU 8002 was a large quantity of medium-brown soil with a softer texture and some inclusions of ceramics, plaster, and other cultural materials, also ranging from penny to palm size. Throughout topsoil SU 8002 were a large quantity of penny sized tesserae, which were collected, as well as some quarter sized chunks of plaster with possible red paint, which were also collected. A large number of fist-sizes stones were located floating along the eastern side of Area B. Along the northern portion of SU 8002 in Area B, a lip of modern construction was located 1-2 cm beneath the surface of topsoil SU 8002. The lip extended varyingly about 4-5 centimeters out from the northern portion of SU 8002 in Area B, had a flat cement surface, and terminated near the eastern side of the portion of WS 48 that is visible in Area B.
