Cleaning layer between the topsoil and the preserved layer of the stones deposit (c615)
Interpretation
The context 611 corresponds to a research process layer - cleaning surface - between the topsoil/subsoil (c600) removed by the excavator and the preserved layer of the stone deposit c615. From this soil, made of clayey silt, a few finds have been retrieved (stone raw material, chipped stones) and may have belong to the stone deposit. Nonetheless, it should be borne in mind that the upper layers of the trench has been disturb by the modern ploughings and the mecanichal digging.
[Original notes recording on the deposit sheet : "Cleaning the south limit stone structure. The stone is selected with similar size and most of them are rounded. Maybe were collected from river side. The soil outside of stone is quite hard and clayish. For understanding whether is a cut or not.we cut the area from middle which to make it align to the sontage of C604."]
