Description

Patchy remains of clay floor

Interpretation

This is a clay floor which covers most of the trench but is not always found intact. It is patchy in that it is much thicker in some places than others and sometimes is not found at all. Nonetheless, it does seem to have covered most of the trench and can be seen clearly in the sidewall profile to intrude over the top of the posthole pit. This clay floor contains many small patches of charcoal as well as small specks of burnt bone, possibly human.
