Description

Dark grey loose layer

Interpretation

This is a thick layer of dark soil which sits on top of the natural sterile soil at the site. This layre covers large parts of the trench and is found below clay floors (such as 1037) as well as lower silt surfaces (such as 1025). 1039 transitions graduly into sterile soil - This suggests that it was not deposited as a single event but rather represents a long term accumulation of black, organic, soils.
