SU 10027 represents of a dense layer of greenish-brown clay located between the two megalithic basalt stones (10060 and 10061) in the eastern end of trench 8000. SU 10027 contained some small rocks and basalt flakes interspersed throughout. SU 10027 possessed almost no cultural material, apart from several shells and a single piece of pottery. Eric identified the flaking of the lower basalt stone into the soil of SU 10027 as fire setting, a process by which one lights fires on the rock that is being chipped away to remove moisture and make it easier to flake off pieces of the basalt. This seems to support the conclusion that the basalt stones are placed/constructed rather than naturally occurring. The green clay is also the signature of the older phases of construction in the area.
