SU 9031 represents the fill layer directly below topsoil SU 9001 in Area C. SU 9031 represents the highest preserved ancient material in the trench, as it survived at a higher elevation and has had less of its surrounding architecture exposed by previous excavators. SU 9031 was a loam-y soil with a high degree of root inclusions.
