SU 10051 represents a very compact layer of reddish clay overlying the fractured basalt bedrock (SU?) east of western walled structure. The overall lack of finds suggests that SU 10051 may ultimately represent natural soil, as the only finds came from the very surface of the SU. A similar layer of the compact red soil was found above bedrock in trench 7000 and trench 2000 as well. Although SU 10051 was difficult to excavate, it was possible to carefully remove SU 10051 and expose the fractured basalt below.
