Gribshunden

In the 1970s, the remains of a 500-year-old vessel were discovered in a dune 10 m below the surface in Stora Ekön.  It was the Danish royal flag ship Gribshunden, the oldest carrack ever to be found in Scandinavia.

It is probably the world's best-preserved 15th-century ship, contemporary with Christopher Columbus' Santa Maria and Vasco da Gama's São Gabriel, and may provide clues about shipbuilding at the time.

From this site, you can access and explore data and information about the archaeological research that has been carried out at the wreck site as part of a collaboration between Blekinge Museum and Lund University.
