Description
fill of pit
Interpretation
The context is a pit that contains lots of animal bones, specifically lower back limbs. It might be over excavated for 20cm by not noticing it when excavating 231. (The animal bone specialist noticed a pattern at lab work). C243 contains 2 different layers of soil: 1st layer is loose, powdery and soft and also easy to remove. The color is brown. There is some chunk of solid soil arranged in a north-south direction on the eastern part of the first 20cm. It was removed after being judged as a random thing. 2nd layer is dense and soft. The color is dark brown. The soil contains more charcoal and the finds become less. There are 2 burnt bones in this layer. Only the half northern part of the pit is excavated. We dig 20cm more to reach the bottom of the pit. The soil is sandy clay, very soft , dark brow, with some charcoal. Some bones and grey ashy pottery fragments from late neolithic I & II. The limit of the bottom is hard soil (natural soil).
