Description

Circular cut in 5042
Interpretation
en
Large circular cut through floor surface 5042. The cut is shallow, extending less than 10cm into the subfloor fill (5051) beneath floor 5042. This cut was either itself cut by 5053 or the two were produced at the same time. In either case, it’s function is unclear.
The cut is seemingly lined with a series of small holes, though their cause and function are unclear. It is possible they were created by worms, as coiled worms have been removed from two of them. Another proposed explanation is that they are impact points from ancient prospecting with an iron bar seeking out the large wall that passes through the area.
