Description

en SU 9043 represents the foundation of wall WS_98 creating the northern end of Area D. Foundation SU 9043 is constructed of two courses of large, roughly square cut blocks set into a narrow construction trench cut (9009) into bedrock 9028. Each course contains 3 large square cut blocks with a small gap between each, partially filled by smaller blocks and rocks wedged in as shims. All blocks are dry-stacked without mortar. The lowest course is the widest, with the second foundation course set back roughly 5cm and the superstructure of the wall (9044) set back an additional 5-10cm atop the second foundation course. Additionally, the easternmost blocks of the foundation are set slghtly further north than the rest of the foundation, causing them to extend a shorter distance into Area D than the rest of the foundation. Some blocks of SU 9043 appear to be reused, with substantially cuttings present.
