Description

en SU 10026 represents a continuation of one of two windows opened in SU 10011. SU 10011 originally extended over much of the trench, and was opened as two windows, one in the west on the outer face of the western walled structure (SUs 10043, 10044, 10045, 10046, and 10047), and one in the east between the sandstone block and the series of basalt boulders. We closed 10011 and opened 10026 to continue excavating the same layer as its own SU. While excavating 10011, we came down on the cut sandstone block and the compact orangey-brown soil on top of it. We also saw that this soil had been cut away to the north of the block. While excavating 10026, we uncovered a green clay layer immediately adjacent and likely under the sandstone block, though the clay was only preserved right against the sandstone block. Excavating further, we found a related layer continuing from the sandstone block to the basalt, at which point we stopped excavation to open a new SU. SU 10026 seems to be the same fill as SU 10011 that covered the previous features in the area and was raised/smoothed to the level of the final ancient layer. SU 10026 seems to be the same fill as SU 10011 that covered the previous features in the area and was raised/smoothed to the level of the final ancient layer.
