Description

SU 9030 represents the quarrying cut along the eastern side of Area D. Cut SU 9030 created a face in the bedrock that makes up the foundation of WS_ 99 along the eastern edge of Area D. Cut SU 9030 begins at an intentionally leveled height in the bedrock (SU 9028), as the top edge of SU 9030 runs flat and uninterrupted across the entire exposed portion of Area D and clearly continues both past wall WS_98 in the north as well as further to the south.
According to Eric's measurements in the field, cut SU 9029 is 6.03 Roman feet from cut SU 9030 along the eastern edge of Area D. This suggests that the overlying architecture that uses both of these cuts as a foundation course was planned prior to quarrying activity.
