Description
en
SU 9045 represents the quarried bedrock used as the foundation for the western wall of Area D, WS_96. This bedrock was quarried and shaped by cut SU 9029 and created a space 6.03 Roman feet across to cut 9030 on the eastern side of the room. The platform created in the bedrock of 9045 was then built up by SU 9046, the above ground portion of wall WS_99. The bedrock of 9045 was cut to an level elevation across its northern portion before dropping down to a lower elevation in a roughly 10cm step about halfway across the extent of the room to the south. The bedrock given a relatively smooth, though not finely finished, face. Tool marks from quarrying activity are visible throughout the exposed portion of this natural bedrock wall foundation.
