Description
en
SU 9044 represents the above ground portion of wall WS_98, the northern wall of Area D. Constructed atop two-course foundations 9043, wall 9044 is a roughly built opus quadratum wall using repurposed square-cut blocks of varying sizes. The bottom course of 9044 consists of two very large and finely cut squared blocks, with the western block showing signs of damage or breakage from imperfections and the eastern block in-filled with smaller blocks to account for previous cuttings. Three additional courses lie above, each of more rectangular blocks laid on their sides with their long axis extending east-west. Wall 9044 abuts both wall WS_99 to the east and WS_96 to the west, clearly showing that 9044 was a later reorganization of an existing space.
