Description

en SU 10042 represents a compact, orangey-brown soil covering the cut sandstone block in the mid-eastern portion of trench 10000. Upon excavating SU 10042, we uncovered a second sandstone block to the west of the first, whose upper surface almost appears to be rusticated. SU 10042 was also covering a reddish soil in the western edge of the space, which was cut (SU 10054) and filled with greenish clay (SU 10053). SU 10042 covered all these SUs and the sandstone blocks, so it appears to have been some sort of leveling fill or bonding agent to smooth over whatever construction was happening here. There was not much cultural material in 10042, nor were there any stones in the fill.
