Description

en SU 9056 represents the fill within SU 9055, the Punic style amphora found within 9040. Fill SU 9056 had a largely muddy consistency, likely due to the torrential rains of last week entering the exposed crack in the initial part of the amphora that was first uncovered. The materials of 9056 were taken as a 100% soil sample, separated out into three sections along the length of the amphora from SW to NE. Sections A & B, the southernmost and central portions, seem to be largely comprised of washed in material with few finds. Section C, however, occupied the lowest elevation of the amphora and better preserved what was likely its initial fill. This fill was a silty sand with fine grains, brown throughout, with a high degree of charcoal and fish bone relative to the rest of 9056 and surrounding fill 9040. This richest part of the fill also contains a small sculptural head of a woman.
