Description

Hull plank, port side aft, w. preserved aft hood end; one of more that fell into the area that is now Trench 3 as the wreck disintegrated.

Outboard face tapers slightly in thickness (6,2 to 4,0cm) to meet the sternpost rabbet.

5 treenail holes; 3 larger nail holes, c. 12x12 mm w. 10mm deep countersunk heads c. 35mmØ; 9 smaller nails, c. 6x12mm of which 1 on outboard face is blind, 32mm deep. 2 nail holes not matching the alignment of the others may be from rudder gudgeon.

The plank is badly eroded except its lower edge and hood end. Originally attached to sternpost, likely also sternpost knee/deadwood (as there are two sets of nail holes in same diagonal orientation), and to ‘Frame 1’ – the (currently) next standing Y-shaped floor timber as well as ‘Frame 2’; the former with nails, the latter only with a bolt/larger nail.

The plank is made from good quality straight grown oak with no visible sapwood.

Photos taken with inset fastener markers (both sides) both on barge and in workshop. 3D scanned (Leo, processed in Artec Studio) and partly/test annotated 20220827.
